Part for Vario EC 145

Rear Cowling Air Intakes

These are Air Intakes for the Vario EC 145. This detail part can be made to be functional! They are placed on the surface of the back set of engine cowlings.

Each EC 145 Air Intake set includes 6 intakes in three different shapes.

The Air Intakes are made from Carbon Fiber and resin. They will need to be cut from the flashing and trimmed to fit your model.

The whole set will require washing and a very light sanding to allow for good paint adheshion. The Air Intakes can be applied to the fuselage with CA, epoxy, or JB Weld after the surface of both the model and the bottom of the part have been sanded.

Making the Air Intakes functional

To make these parts functional on your model an opening needs to be cut in the fuselage.

  1. Trim the Air Intake to the Base (DO NOT trim the opening at this time.) Picture 1
  2. Surface sand the gel coat of the cowling if it has not yet been done. Clean!
  3. Locate each of the six intakes and trace around the Base and front with a sharp pencil. Picture 3
  4. Remove each intake.
  5. Measure 3mm along the INSIDE edge of the base line and measure 1mm along the INSIDE edge of the front. Picture 5
  6. Cut out the inside shape. (An extra layer of fiberglass or Carbon Fiber may be added to the interior of the model BEFORE cutting this hole if it is so desired.) Clean! Picture 6
  7. Affix each of the Air Intakes to the surface of the model and allow to dry. Make sure to clean up any excess adhesive from the surface of your model. Picture 7
  8. From the interior of the model finish sanding the opening so it is neat and clean. Picture 8
